The Diabetic Educator is responsible for providing nutritional diabetes counseling and education to diabetic patients, to include the development of nutritional care plans. This is a professional level position of working independently under limited direction. Work situations are primarily routine yet require a service oriented individual, organization, prioritization, analysis of workflow, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills in working with staff, physicians, and families. Extensive internal and external contacts include patients, patient families, physicians, community agencies, and hospitals. Internal contacts include physicians, and professional staff. The on call position requires travel to multiple sites within the South Puget Sound area.
One year experience in behavior modification applying adult learning principles
CPR Certification required
BA or BS degree in nutrition or related field
Currently a registered dietitian and a CDE or seeking certification with the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE)
Certification in Diabetes Education preferred
Excellent skill building opportunities in behavior modification, Motivational interviewing, Diabetes education, which depending on skill level could include meter and pump training, insulin adjustment and continuous glucose monitor insertions/downloads. Hands on training and guidance to be provided. We have a dynamic Diabetes services team complete with Diabetes care coordinators RN's RD's CDE's pharmacists with 10 locations between pierce and SKC serving patients with diabetes.
